(Construction) - On November 8, the Ministry of Construction chaired the organization of the Vietnam Urban Sustainable Development Forum 2023.

The event included a plenary opening session and 3 thematic workshops with the topics "Urban planning towards sustainable urban development"; “Digital transformation in urban development management”; “Sustainable, environmentally friendly and climate-resilence urban development”.

 

 

To focus on completing institutions for sustainable urban development management
Vietnam Urban Sustainable Development Forum 2023

Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi noted that: Vietnam Urban Forum this year takes place in the context of Vietnam urban areas entering the first year of implementing Resolution 06-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2022 of the Politburo on planning, construction, management and sustainable development of Vietnam urban areas to 2030, vision to 2045. This is the first time the Politburo with a separate thematic Resolution on the field of urban management and development, thereby affirming the role of Vietnam urban system, while providing strategic directions with requirements, tasks and solutions that are very important for Vietnam urban development in the new period.

Besides achievements in urban development after 35 years of innovation, Resolution 06-NQ/TW pointed out shortcomings in urban development such as: The rate of urbanization was still low; The quality of urbanization was not high; The level of economic concentration was still low; The structure and quality of urban infrastructure did not meet the requirements of population and economic development in urban areas; did not adapt to climate change, not respond to large-scale epidemics...

Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi raised a number of proposals on directions to promote urban development in Vietnam. In particular, urban authorities in localities should pay attention, promote proactiveness, allocate resources, material and human resources for local urban development, focus to invest in upgrading and improving urban quality in parallel with the urbanization process.

With the current national urbanization rate at 42.6%, Vietnam still has a lot of areas for urban development. Therefore, Vietnam should have the best preparations in the coming time, so that urban areas can truly promote its role that the Politburo pointed out, contributing to further improvement of quality of life for the community and increasing new surplus value for eco-social and environmental development.

At the workshop of Section 3 with the theme “Sustainable, environmentally friendly and climate-resilence urban development”, many experts, speakers and delegates focused on exchanging contents related to: Territorial governance challenges for sustainable urban development with climate change; Urban resilience through the sponge city model; Better measurement of resilience in Vietnam; Contents about green growth; Design based on nature, harmony development of urban spaces...
